Life Story for Earl Edwin O'Day

Earl Edwin  O'Day
Mr. Earl Edwin O'Day, age 93, of Rising Sun, Indiana, entered this life on January 31, 1920, in Switzerland County, Indiana, to the late, Everett C. & Hazel (Rayls) O'Day. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, where he attended school. Earl was inducted into the US Navy on May 9, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, rising to the rank of Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class, serving during the World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, American Area Ribbon & World War II Victory Medal. Earl was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946, in Great Lakes, Illinois. Earl was united in marriage on September 5, 1984, in Verona, Kentucky, to Leitha Mae Busse. Earl & Leitha resided the past 25 years in Rising Sun, Indiana. Earl & Leitha shared nearly 29 years of marriage together until his death. Earl retired after 30 years of service as an Operator from the Seagram's Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Earl owned & operated O'Day Excavating in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, for 10 years. Earl was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 & the Lawrenceburg Eagles. Earl will be remembered for his love of restoring antique cars & enjoying his motorcycle. Earl was a beloved husband, father & grandfather. Earl died at 2:25 pm, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Earl will be missed by his wife of nearly 29 years: Leitha Mae (Busse) O'Day of Rising Sun, IN; his son: Jerry O'Day & his wife: Pauline of Spring Hill, FL; his step-son: Bret Martin & his wife: Barbara of Lawrenceburg, IN; his step-daughters: Renee Cole & her husband: David of Rising Sun, IN, Ynez Taylor of Rising Sun, IN; his 8-grandchildren & his 10-great-grandchildren; his 1/2 sister: Jean Adkins of Versailles, IN; his several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Everett C. & Hazel (Rayls) O'Day; his step-mother: Juanita O'Day.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Ronald Sandidge, at the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana. Full Military rites will be conducted be the Honor Guard of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ in Rising Sun, Indiana or to the Charity of the Donor's Choice. Cards are available at the funeral home.
