Life Story for Charles Green

Mr. Charles Green, age 84, of Center Square, Indiana, entered this life on August 16, 1931, on Plum Creek in Switzerland County, Indiana, the son of the late Andrew and Sadie M. (Peters) Green. He was raised on Plum Creek in Switzerland County and attended Vevay High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on January 20,1949 in New Albany, Indiana, serving during the Korean War. He served in the 10th Recon Company 10th Infantry Division at Fort Riley Kansas, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal, Republic of Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars & the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1952 at Fort Riley Kansas, with the rank of Master Sergeant. Charlie was united in marriage on January 19, 1957, in Madison Indiana, to Jo Orem and to this union arrived two daughters to bless their home. Charlie was a farmer working with his son-in-law, Kenny McClurg and daughter, Jenny & later with additional help from his grandson Tobie. He was a former employee of Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana, from 1955-1961. Charles owned and operated Vevay Concrete Plant from 1970-1979 & was also a former partner in the Vevay radio station WMGH in the late 70's. He was a former employee for Orem Transfer in Aurora, Indiana, from 1961-1971. He was a former employee for Belterra Casino & Resort for 8 years. He was a member of the Switzerland Lodge No.122 F&AM, the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the Vevay American Legion Post #185, Vevay VFW Post #5396 & the Plum Creek Baptist Church. Charlie will be remembered for his love of baling hay, fishing, hunting, & raising cattle. Charles passed away at 6:20 pm, Monday, October 19, 2015, at his residence in Center Square, Indiana.

Charles will be missed by his wife: Jo (Orem) Green of Center Square, IN; his daughters: Jenny McClurg & her husband: Kenny of Bennington, IN, Tracy Naegele & her husband: Russ of Moorefield, IN; his grandchildren: Erin Jackson, Myra Fields, Tobie McClurg, Erica Soule & Ginger Naegele & several great-grandchildren; his sisters: Lucille Phillips & her husband: Cherry of Vevay, IN; Linda Poling of Patriot, IN; Catherine McManus of Vevay, IN,;Alberta Reed of Vevay, IN; his brothers: Ivan Green & his wife: Dollie of Patriot, IN; Galen Green & his wife: Billie of Vevay, IN & his numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Andrew & Sadie M. (Peters) Green; his brothers: Marvin Green, Allen Green & Arthur "Buddy" Green & his sisters: Dorothy Scott & Meredith Scudder.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, October 23, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 pm, Friday, October 23, 2015, at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the honor guard of the American Legion Post #185, & the Vevay VFW Post #5396 & the Fort Knox ceremonial unit.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children Burn Institute, 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45229, Center Square Amish School or the donor's favorite charity. Cards are available at the funeral home.
