Life Story for Donald Dale "Donnie" Leap

Donald Dale "Donnie"  Leap
Mr. Donald Dale "Donnie" Leap, age 68, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life April 9, 1947, in Milan, Indiana, the son of the late, Harley "Hod" and Clara Rebecca "Reba" (Adams) Leap. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and attended the Vevay High School. Donnie was inducted into the United States Navy on September 20, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving during the Vietnam War. He received the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. Donnie was released from active duty and transferred to Naval Reserve with the rank of Airman on September 19, 1968 in Bainbridge, Maryland. Donnie was honorably discharged from the reserves on September 19, 1971. Donnie was united in marriage on April 26, 1969, at the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church by Rev. Ronald Sandidge to Virginia Ann "Ginny" Martin and to this union arrived two daughters, Marci and Michelle to bless their home. Donnie and Ginny shared 46 loving years of marriage together until his death. He farmed on Tapps Ridge from 1969 to 1976. He was employed for Aurora Casket Company as a brusher and finisher in Aurora, Indiana for 5 years. Donnie was a former carpenter for John Mishler's Construction for 2 years. Donnie worked along side his brother, Jimmy Leap for Leap Construction for 20 years. Donnie retired as an Engineer in the Facilities Department on June 16, 2015 from the Belterra Casino & Resort after 10 1/2 years of service. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185. He was raised in the Long Run Baptist Church near Moorefield, Indiana. He enjoyed his Sunday drives listening to Christian music. He also loved listening to old country music, especially his idol, Gene Watson. Donnie took great pleasure in raising and training beagles to hunt. He also enjoyed rabbit and coon hunting and fishing. Donnie was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Donnie passed away at 6:40 am, Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

Donnie will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 46 years: Virginia Ann "Ginny" (Martin) Leap of Vevay, IN; his daughters: Marci Lynn Leap of Florence, IN & Michelle Lynn Carfield & her husband: Joe of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren: James Dustin Carfield & his wife: Kelsey of Bennington, IN, Petty Officer 3rd Class Kali Carfield & her spouse: Katelyn of Bremerton, WA, Courtney Ryan Carfield of Vevay, IN & Kylie Jo Carfield of Vevay, IN; his brother: James Cecil "Jimmy" Leap of Vevay, IN; his sister-in-law: Ruth Lohide of East Enterprise, IN; his nephews: James Jeffery Leap of Michigan, Roy Allan Leap & his wife: Julie of Vevay, IN & Steve Lohide & his wife: Norma of Mesa, AR; his nieces: Katina Carter-Ray of Vevay, IN, Kathleen Bolton of Vevay, IN, Lisa Creech & her husband: Jim of Aurora, IN, Susan Darling & her companion: Duane Covington of East Enterprise, IN & Kim Bennis of St. Louis, MO & his numerous great-nieces, great-nephews & other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Harley "Hod" Leap, died March 3, 1982 & Clara Rebecca "Reba" (Adams) Leap, died April 29, 1998; his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: John & Betty (Martin) Mishler, Charles Lohide, Janie (Beach) Leap & Jackie (Skirvin) Leap.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 11:00 am, by at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Full military rites & interment will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185, the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit at the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vevay American Legion Post #185 Relief Fund or to the Switzerland County Animal Shelter Endowment Fund % Community Foundation of Switzerland County. Cards are available at the funeral home.
