Life Story for John Ervin Lucas

John Ervin  Lucas
Mr. John Ervin Lucas, age 92, of near Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on March 4, 1923, in Owen County, Kentucky, the loving son of the late, Charlie G. and America Lee (Lewis) Lucas. He was raised near Moorefield, Indiana where he attended school and had resided in the community since the age of 6. John was inducted into the United States Army on November 5, 1945, at Fort Ord, California, serving during World War II. He received the Army of Occupation Medal Germany and Victory Medal. John was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on November 23, 1946 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. John was united in marriage on September 14, 1958, at the Long Run Baptist Parsonage in Moorefield, Indiana to Dorothy Louise Andrew and to this union arrived four children to bless their home. John and Dorothy shared 10 years of marriage together until her death. John farmed all of his life near Moorefield, Indiana where he operated a dairy, raising tobacco, hogs, sheep and hay. Throughout the years they often had a lamb in the house that they had to bottle feed. John was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185. John will be remembered for his love of coon hunting, fox hunting, especially his dog Ruby who was his faithful companion. John passed away at 2:55 pm, Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

John will be dearly missed by his daughter: Barbara Jean Lucas of near Moorefield, IN; his sons: James William Lucas & his wife: Sharon of Rising Sun, IN & John Robert "Bob" Lucas & his wife: Debi of near Moorefield, IN; his grandchildren: Andy Lucas & his wife: Shelby, Willie Self & his wife: Kelsey, Randa Combs & her husband: Josh, Tiffany Lucas, Chris Flood & his wife: Brooke, Stephanie Buchanan & her husband: Josh, Travis Jellison & his wife: Kelli & Ashley Jellison & his friend: Brandy Hall; his great-grandchildren: Mason, Ellie, Ava, Hadley, Adeleigh, Kinsley, Shelby, Trinity, Trenton, Jayden & Danielle; his sister: Faye Olds of Vevay, IN; his brother: Willie Lucas & his wife: Ellen of Madison, IN; his sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Nell & Emmett Jaynes of Anderson, IN, Betty Lucas of Madison, IN, Mary Lucas of Moorefield, IN, Becky Lucas of Grapevine, TX & Bud Lawler of Ft. Worth, TX & his numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie G. Lucas, died December 25, 1939 & America Lee (Lewis) Lucas, died September 4, 1987; his wife: Dorothy Louise (Andrew) Lucas, died November 17, 1968; his daughter: Ruth Ann Lucas, died April 19, 1961; his daughter-in-law: Nancy Lucas, died May 19, 2009; his sisters: Pauline Lucas, died April 12, 1982, Frances Jones, died September 25, 1988, Ann Lucas, died December 16, 1987 & Carolyn Lawler; his brothers: Charles Lucas, died November 4, 1994, George Lucas, died March 29, 2001, Albert Lucas, died November 10, 1993, Walker D. Lucas, died February 23, 2002, Raymond Lucas & Bruce Lucas.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 1:00 pm, by Pastor KC Banta, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Long Run Baptist Church. Cards are available at the funeral home.
