Life Story for James Edwin "Jim" Allison

James Edwin "Jim"  Allison
Mr. James Edwin "Jim" Allison, age 74, of Florence, Indiana, entered this life on August 11, 1941, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of the late, Edwin John and Nellie Crystal (Deardoerf) Allison. He was raised in Cromwell, Indiana and Marengo, Illinois and was a 1959 graduate of Marengo High School. Jim was united in marriage on February 27, 1965, in Marengo, Illinois, to Shelby Jean Gray and to this union arrived two daughters, Tammy and Lori to bless their home. Jim and Shelby shared 51 years of marriage together until his death. In 1965, Jim earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and later earned his Master's Degree in 1970 from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Jim earned his degree in administration in 1972 from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Jim taught for the Riley Elementary School in Marengo, Illinois for 5 years and for the Central Nobel School in Albion, Indiana for 5 years. He also taught and was a principal for Winamac High School in Winamac, Indiana for 5 years. In 1977, Jim was employed for the Switzerland County School Corporation where he taught and served as principal for the Switzerland County High School and for the Switzerland County Elementary School. Jim retired in 1999 from the Switzerland County School Corporation, after 22 years of service. Jim enjoyed coaching track, basketball and football throughout his teaching career. After Jim retired he enjoyed tutoring for the Switzerland County High School for 10 years. Jim resided in the Florence community since 1977. Jim was a member of the Marengo Baptist Church in Marengo, Illinois. Jim will be remembered for spending time with his loving grandchildren where he enjoyed watching them play sports and coaching them from the bleachers. Jim also enjoyed watching the Cubs play and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Jim passed away at 6:35 pm, Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Jim will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 51 years: Shelby Jean (Gray) Allison of Florence, IN; his daughters: Tammy Honeycutt and her husband: Sam of Greenwood, IN and Lori Vaughn of Cape Girardeau, MO; his grandchildren: Cody, Chad, Casey, Allison, Nicholas and Alex; his brother: Stu Allison and his wife: Marian of Colleyville, TX; his sister: Marcia Huff of Ocean Springs, MS and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Edwin John and Nellie Crystal (Deardoerf) Allison.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Mike Jones at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Florence Cemetery, Florence, Indiana.
