Mr. Hilbert "Hibbie" Scudder, Jr., age 80, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 29, 1937, in Bennington, Indiana, the son of the late, Hilbert Scudder, Sr. and Elsie Edith (Shadday) Scudder. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where he was a 1956 graduate of the Vevay High School. Hibbie was united in marriage on August 24, 1957, at the Bennington United Methodist Church, to Roberta Woolums and to this union arrived a daughter, Leah to bless their home. Hibbie and Roberta shared 60 years of marriage together until his death. He was employed for Joseph E. Seagrams for 33 1/2 years and for Belterra Casino & Resort for five years. Hibbie was a faithful member of the Switzerland County Lions Club since 1986, Bennington United Methodist Church, Jeff Craig Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years and the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765 for 34 years. He served on the Vevay Town Council for seven years, Democrat Precinct Committeeman for 24 years and Jefferson Township Advisory for eight years. Hibbie and Roberta built many homes in the Switzerland County community. They owned and operated Scudder Department Store for 17 years, Bargain Furniture and the Hilbert Scudder Construction. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved Switzerland County where he resided all of his life. If you would ask anyone if they knew Hibbie, they would say of course! Hibbie suffered from late illness in his life, including six strokes and many operations, but always had a good sense of humor. His daughter and his granddaughter were his pride and joy. He retired from Seagram's when his granddaughter was born in 1992 so he could be near Lauren. Hibbie could be seen riding around in his truck with his granddaughter, Lauren beside him. He also enjoyed mowing, keeping a meticulous lawn, spending time with his dog Cheyenne and selling produce, mums and hanging baskets. Hibbie passed away at 12:50 pm, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

Hibbie will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Roberta (Woolums) Scudder of Vevay, IN; his daughter, Leah Hon of Vevay, IN; his granddaughter, Lauren Hon of Vevay, IN; his step-granddaughters, Julia Hon of Vevay, IN and Rachel (Hon) York of Rising Sun, IN and his sister, Wanda Christman of Vevay, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilbert Scudder, Sr., died April 21, 1970 and Elsie Edith (Shadday) Scudder, died July 31, 1969 and his sister, Muriel Blodget, died July 28, 1990.

The Switzerland County Lion's Club will be conducting services at 7:30 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 11:00 am, by Pastor Patrick Lanman at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
