Life Story for Robert Halstead "Bobby" Richards

Robert Halstead "Bobby" Richards
Mr. Robert Halstead "Bobby" Richards, age 75, of Switzerland County, Indiana, entered this life on April 11, 1942, in Switzerland County, Indiana, the loving son of the late, Roy and Virginia (Alford) Richards. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and was a 1960 graduate of the Vevay High School. Bobby was united in marriage on January 1, 1962, at the Brushy Fork Baptist Church, to Barbara Ann Hammonds and to this union arrived five sons, Dale, Troy, Shane, Todd and T.J. to bless their home. Bobby was later united in marriage on October 1, 1994, on the family farm on Chapel Ridge in Switzerland County, Indiana, to the late, Juanita Ann Brown. Bobby and Juanita shared nearly 22 years of marriage together until Juanita passed away on April 10, 2016. Bobby was a former school bus driver for the Switzerland County School Corporation for 12 years. He retired from the State Highway Department in 2009, after 20 years of service. Bobby loved working on the family farm, logging timber and with his cattle. Anyone who knew him would tell stories of going by seeing him on his four-wheeler driving in the pasture checking fences or going for breakfast with Mike, his faithful pitbull guardian at his side. The only thing that slowed him down from getting his chores done on the farm was if someone came by and he was able to get “live and in concert” telling stories from the “Book of Bob.” He served on the Pleasant Township Advisory Board for many years. He was a member of the Switzerland County Tractor Pullers, was President of the Bear Branch Volunteer Fire Department and served as a Board of Director for the Moorefield Community Fire Department. Bobby was a lifelong resident of the Switzerland County community. The only thing he loved more than farming was his family. He enjoyed his cattle, tractor pulling and traveling to buffalo roundups and visiting civil war battlefields. Bobby passed away at 9:20 pm, Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at his residence on Chapel Ridge Road in Switzerland County, Indiana.

Bobby will be missed by his sons, Dale Richards and his companion: Lynn Schmaltz of Vevay, IN, Troy Richards and his wife: Georgia of Vevay, IN, Shane Richards and his wife: Crystal of Carrollton, KY, Todd Richards and his wife: Tracie of Canaan, IN and T.J.
