Life Story for Daniel Nikolaus Johannes Dilger

Mr. Daniel Nikolaus Johannes Dilger, age 24, of Columbus, Ohio, entered this life on November 29, 1993, in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany, the loving son of, Nikolaus and Tonya L. (Higgins) Dilger. Daniel was raised in Union, Kentucky, and was a 2012 graduate of Ryle High School in Union, Kentucky, and the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Bowling Green, Kentucky. A National Merit Finalist, he worked on a cryptography research project while at the Gatton Academy. After graduating from high school, Daniel received a paid summer internship at the Technical University in Dortmund, Germany, where he was a programmer and tester for the project "Preserving Confidentiality in Multiagent Systems." He received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky on May 5, 2017. Before graduation, Daniel was a Peer Teaching Assistant for Freshman Engineering Honors courses at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, from Fall 2013-Spring 2014. He was also a Process Automation Intern at ArcelorMittal in Cleveland, Ohio, in the summers of 2014, 2015 and 2016. After graduating from the University of Kentucky, Daniel was employed by Tata Consultancy Services in Milford, Ohio, as a Software Engineer. Daniel was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Union, Kentucky. Daniel enjoyed running marathons with his dad, swimming, biking, jogging, mathematics, programming AI chess games and building electronic circuitry with his siblings. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Daniel passed away from a rare medical complication at 9:15 AM, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at his residence in Columbus, Ohio.

Daniel will be deeply missed by his loving parents, Nikolaus and Tonya L. (Higgins) Dilger of Union, Kentucky; his sister, Isabella Dilger of Union, KY; his brothers, Alexander and Lucas Dilger of Union, KY; the love of his life, Makayla McLelland of West Chester, OH; his maternal grandparents, John F. and Barbara (Hart) Higgins of Canaan, IN; his paternal grandmother, Ilse (Maschmeier) Dilger of Bochum, Germany; his aunts and uncles, Bettina Dilger and Gerhard Rocholl of Gelsenkirchen, Germany, John Matthew "Joey" and Debbie Higgins of Canaan, IN and Alexander and Katrin Dilger of Dortmund, Germany; his cousins, Julia and Christopher Rocholl and Fabian and Sophia Dilger; his great-uncles and great-aunts, Harold David and Donna Hart of Charlestown, IN, Larry and Donna Higgins of Columbus, IN and William Robert Hart of Canaan, IN, Wilhelm and Eva-Maria (Dilger) Schrörs of Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany, Konrad Dilger and Hildegard Thorissen of Hamburg, Germany, Hubert and Monika Dilger of Wörth-Schaid, Germany, Hildegard Dilger of Köln, Germany, Mechtild Dilger and Eberhard Meyer of Aachen, Germany, and Dieter Maschmeier of Ense, Germany.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Jakob Nathan "Pat-Pat" Dilger, died November 10, 1996; his sister, Carmen Barbara Tonya Dilger, died January 20, 2005; his paternal grandfather, Bernhard Dilger, died June 2, 2016; his maternal great-grandparents, Harold and Frances (O'Connell) Hart and John and Mary Perle (Clements) Higgins; his cousin, Jacqueline Elaine "Jacqui" Higgins, died April 21, 2013; his great-uncle, Charles Hart, died February 28, 2016; his paternal great-uncle, Ludwig Maschmeier, died June 24, 2003; his paternal great-aunts, Louise (Maschmeier) Holsboer, died November 2, 2004 and Regina Fuchs-Dilger, died January 30, 2001.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 22, 2018, at 3:00 PM, by Pastor Chris Clemans, Father Rick Bolte and Father Ross Kelsch at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery, Pleasant, Indiana
