Life Story for Brian Melzer Cox

Brian Melzer  Cox
Mr. Brian Melzer Cox, age 31, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 13, 1986, in St. Albans, Vermont, the loving son of, David William and Debra Jean "Debbie" (Brayman) Cox. Brian was a 2005 graduate of the Switzerland County High School where he enjoyed playing soccer and participated in cub scouts. Brian was inducted into the Indiana National Guard in 2005 and served in Iraq until 2011. Brian was united in marriage on July 15, 2016, in Switzerland County, Indiana, to Samantha Lynna Olmstead. This blended family was blessed with two daughters, Taylor Cox and Rebecca Michelle Matthews and a son, Kyle James Lee Matthews. Brian was employed as a jailor for the Carroll County Detention Center in Carrollton, Kentucky. He was a emergency medical technician for several years in the state of Indiana. Brian was a member of the Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion and the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church. Brian enjoyed riding his motorcycle and will be deeply missed by his heartbroken family. Brian passed away at 7:26 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2018, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Brian is survived by his parents, David William and Debra Jean (Brayman) Cox of Vevay, IN; his daughter, Taylor Cox of Madison, IN; his step-children, Kyle James Lee and Rebecca Michelle Matthews of Bedford, IN; his sister, Kimberly Cox of Ft. Wayne, IN; his brother, Bradley Cox of Vevay, IN; his paternal-grandmother, Mary Ruth (Brown) Cox of Gray Court, SC; his maternal aunts and uncles, Brenda and Francis Nowak of Prescott, AZ, Michael and Christine Dooley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kathleen and Pete Bonnier of Schaghticoke, NY, Patricia and Butch Belcher of Melrose, NY and James and Karen Dooley of Troy, NY; his paternal aunts and uncles, Barry and Deborah Cox of Troy, NY, Laura and Donnie Davenport of Gray Court, SC, Tina and Kenny Vanderhoff of Averill Park, NY, Larry and Marge Cummings of VT and Herb and Toni Cummings of CT and his numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Brian Daniel Cummings, died August 29, 2017; his maternal-grandparents, Leon J. and Dorothy E. (Plew) Brayman; his paternal-grandfather, Franklin Christian Cox; his biological grandparents, Melzer and Germaine Cummings and his biological uncle, Art Cummings.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 13, 2018, at 1:00 pm, by Rev. Wayne Daugherty & Rev. Mike Jones at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 & Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Memorial contributions may be made to the education fund for Taylor, Kyle and Rebecca % David William Cox. Cards are available at the funeral home.
