Life Story for
Mr. David John Hankins, age 71, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 30, 1946, in Madison, Indiana, the son of the late, Paul David and Pearl Margaret Gwendolene (Lawes) Hankins. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana and was a 1964 graduate of the Vevay High School. David was united in marriage on June 30, 1964, at the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, Indiana to Marcell Bolton and to this union arrived two sons, David Troy and Cory J. Hankins to bless their home. David was employed for Cummins in Columbus, Indiana and later for Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky. David was a real estate agent for Courtney-Hankins Real Estate for several years and owned and operated the dollar general store in Vevay, Indiana. David owned and operated DAMAR in Vevay, Indiana, from 1987 to 2001. He was employed as a mail carrier for the Vevay Post Office from 2001 to 2005. David owned and operated with his son, Cory the C&D Auto Sales in Madison, Indiana, for the past 20 years. He was a member of the Switzerland Masonic Lodge No.122 F&AM and the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church and attended the Switzerland Baptist Church. David was very active in the Switzerland County community. His pride and joy were his grandkids and his great-granddaughter, Camdynn. David enjoyed spending time and socializing with his kids, his grandkids and his family, flying airplanes in Florida and watching his kids and his grandkids play sports and watching NASCAR. David passed away at 2:39 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.
David will be deeply missed by his sons, David Troy Hankins of Vevay, IN and Cory J. Hankins and his wife: Karrie of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren, Tyla Lynn Hankins, David Jerald Hankins, Cody Hankins and his companion: Dawn Devers and Caden Hankins; his great-granddaughter, Camdynn Hankins; his sisters, Sandy Ellegood and her husband: Wayne of Vevay, IN and Tammy Works of North Vernon, IN; his aunts, Myrtle Pesce of Vevay, IN, Libby Ray of Vevay, IN and Jeanette Lawes of England and his several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul David and Pearl Margaret Gwendolene (Lawes) Hankins and his brother, Anthony Gene "Tony" Hankins
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018, by Rev. C. Martin Justice, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
