Life Story for Robert Lee "Hardly" McKenzie

Robert Lee "Hardly"  McKenzie
Mr. Robert Lee "Hardly" McKenzie, age 66, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 26, 1951, in Madison, Indiana, the loving son of the late, Leslie McKenzie and Mary Ellen (Cole) McKenzie McClellan. He was a 1970 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. Hardly was united in marriage on May 24, 1997, in Vevay, Indiana, to Lynda Carolyn Dawson. Hardly and Lynda shared 21 years of marriage together until his death. Hardly was a member of the Local Union No.1393 in Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 1998, after 10 years of service. He was a former bartender for Vevay VFW Post #5396 for eight years, Cuzz's Bar and Boondoggles in Vevay, Indiana. Hardly owned and operated McKenzie's Garage in Vevay, Indiana, for the past 19 years. He resided most of his life in the Vevay community. Hardly was a member of the Vevay VFW Post #5396 Auxiliary, Local Union No.1393 of Indianapolis and Local Union No.1142 of Lawrenceburg. Hardly enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and attending car shows. Hardly passed away at 7:26 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Hardly will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 21 years, Lynda Carolyn (Dawson) McKenzie of Vevay, IN; his son, Robbie McKenzie and his fiancé: Crystal Haas of Madison, IN; his daughter, Heather Cooper of Madison, IN; his step-daughter, Shannan Abrams of Hanover, IN; his step-daughter-in-law, Tina Minch of Moorefield, IN; his grandchildren, Cosmos Cooper, Cordel Minch, Creedence Cooper, Carter McKenzie, Connor McKenzie, Ethan McKenzie, Ashley Harding, Cheyenne Minch and Shawnee Minch; his great-grandchildren, Surenitie, Hayden, Aubri, Wesson and Nick; his brother, Donald McKenzie and his wife: Mardi of Tuttle, OK; his sisters, Lona Mathews of Largo, FL, Betty Scott of Vevay, IN and Loretta Hayes and her husband: Paul of Vevay, IN; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Judy Kay White of Vevay, IN, Pam Minch of Vevay, IN, Dean Roberts and his wife: Corrine of Greenfield, IN, Walter Lee Dawson and his wife: Debbie of Fortville, IN, Melvin Lynn Dawson and his wife: Patty of WI, Herb Dawson and his wife: Dorothy of Madison, IN and Sandy Dawson of Vevay, IN and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie McKenzie and Mary Ellen (Cole) McKenzie-McClellan; his step-son, Jeff Minch; his brothers, Elmer Lloyd "Dumpy" White, Lewis Edward McKenzie, Richard "Rick" McKenzie and Ernest Ray "Ernie" McKenzie; his half-brother, David "Buck" White; his nephews, Richard L. "Dick" White and R.J. Mathews; his nieces, Megan Shelby Hayes and Loni Amber Lynn Turner; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde and Zilpha Dawson; his step-son-in-law, Edward Joseph "Smokey Joe" Abrams and his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Minch and Wayne Dawson.

Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at 6:00 pm, by Ryan Leach at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
