Life Story for James Samuel "Jim " Levell

Mr. James Samuel "Jim" "Speedy" Levell, age 95, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on August 22, 1922, in Ripley County, Indiana, the loving son of the late, Leslie and Blanche (Scroggins) Levell. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where he attended school. Jim was united in marriage on November 8, 1942, in Patriot, Indiana, to the late, Juanita Sigmon and to this union arrived a daughter, Teresa and sons, James and Roger to bless their home. Jim and Juanita shared 66 years of marriage together until she passed away on December 4, 2008. Jim was inducted into the United States Army on December 14, 1942, in Harrison, Indiana, serving during World War II. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Jim was honorably discharged with the rank of Technician 5 on April 6, 1946, at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He was employed for Charlestown Powder Plant until 1942 and was later employed for Fernald in Hamilton, Ohio, from 1958 to 1960. Jim was employed as an artillery repairman for Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison, Indiana, retiring in 1982, after 30 years of service. Jim farmed in Allensville, Indiana, until they moved to the Vevay community in 1976, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185, Vevay VFW Post #5396 and the Switzerland Baptist Church. Jim passed away at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Teresa Ann Levell of Vevay, IN; his sons, James Ronald Levell and his wife: Peggy of Oxnard, CA and Roger Dale Levell and his wife: Sally of Gulf Shores, AL; his grandchildren, Joseph Levell and his wife: Michelle, Summer Williams and her husband: Ray, Christopher Levell and his companion: Chrissy, Matthew Levell and his wife: Brooke and Keara Levell; his great-grandchildren, Christopher Levell, Jr., Christian Levell, Ember Sky Williams, Corbin Williams, Chase Williams, Madalyn Grace Levell, Grayson James Levell, Hudson Matthew Levell, Josiah Levell and Isabella Levell and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Blanche (Scroggins) Levell; his wife, Juanita (Sigmon) Levell, died December 4, 2008; his brothers, Robert and Cecil Levell and his sister, Mary Belle Birge.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
