Mrs. Myrtle Muriel Audrey (Lawes) Pesce, age 92, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on September 21, 1925, in Norfolk, England, the loving daughter of the late, James Anthony and Margaret Elizabeth (Patterson) Lawes. She was raised in Norfolk, England and was a graduate of Diss Grammar School. Myrtle had planned on going to college to study domestic science with a degree in teaching, but her plans were cut short because of World War II. She had to take a war job at the Diss Telephone Company in Norfolk, England. During the War, Myrtle was introduced to a young man serving in the United States Army in England and they were united in marriage on August 21, 1945, in Norfolk, England. This happy union was blessed with one son, Graham. Myrtle and her family moved to Vevay in 1948 and they became very active in the community. Myrtle was employed as a clerk for the LaVelle's Dry Cleaners in Vevay from 1952-1958. She went to work as a telephone operator for the Vevay Telephone company from 1958-1968. Myrtle was always at her husbands side serving the ministry in whatever capacity she was needed. Rev. Victor was tragically killed in an automobile accident on March 12, 1972, near Deputy, Indiana. Myrtle's life was never the same. Myrtle's faith never wavered and she returned to the Vevay Community where she began working as a clerk for the Osborn's Clothing Store from 1972-1979. She enjoyed working with the public and was always a gracious and beautiful lady. Myrtle began a career as a bank teller in 1979, at the Vevay Deposit Bank, where she met and maintained many friendships, even after her retirement in 2000. On January 13, 1998, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Myrtle became a United States American citizen. In May 1998, she voted for the first time and was so proud of that achievement. Myrtle was active in her community where she was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Vevay and was a member of the Julia Dumont Club.
