Jeremiah 29:11 "You are not stuck in your circumstances, you are positioned for God's purposes." These are the quotes Shirley loved. They gave her comfort during this hard time of her life. Shirley Ann (Tingle) Hewitt went to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:20 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at her residence in Vevay, Indiana, following a courageous battle with her heart and lung disease and cancer. She was surrounded by her family and felt the prayers of many people who loved her dearly. Shirley entered this life on September 5, 1941, in Port Royal, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late, Gilbert Carroll and Leona (Raisor) Tingle. At the age of three years, the family moved to Brooksburg, Indiana. A short time later, they moved to Green Valley Road near Vevay, Indiana. Shirley was a 1959 graduate of the Vevay High School in Vevay, Indiana. Shirley was united in marriage on December 14, 1962 at the Brooksburg Baptist Church in Brooksburg, Indiana, to David C. Hewitt and to this union arrived a son, Steven Gary and a daughter, Tracy Lee to bless their home. Shirley and David shared over 54 years of marriage together until her death. Shirley was employed as a Clerk for Kirlin's Hallmark Shop in Madison, Indiana, before she became disabled. She was a former employee for Joyce Shoe in Madison, Indiana and for Wilma Turner's Dress Shop in Vevay, Indiana. She was also a substitute teacher for the Switzerland County School Corporation. Shirley joined the Braytown Christian Church during her childhood years. When she moved to the Vevay community, she joined the Spring Branch Baptist Church in June 1970 where she was a faithful member. She served the Lord faithfully with her labors and efforts in teaching Sunday school classes, presenting children sermons, and serving as Treasurer and Secretary of Mission Circle and Church Clerk. She helped in any way that she could to impart God's love for all. Shirley also served her community well. She served on the Switzerland County Public Library Board when the new public library was built in Vevay, Indiana. She organized the Someone Does Care Group in writing letters to servicemen and women during and after the Gulf War. She also served on the American Cancer Society Board for several years. Shirley enjoyed sewing, watching Kentucky basketball, ceramics, quilting, word search puzzles, watching Dale Earnhardt, Jr. race, and visiting with family and friends. An example has been left for each of us whose lives Shirley touched. She was faithful in her responsibilities as a wife and mother. She was faithful in her church attendance. She always had a big smile, a friendly greeting, and she had a powerful grip giving handshakes. When you visited with Shirley, she was always thrilled to see you. She was an example for faithful living; An example to fear God and look to him for comfort and guidance. She loved her Lord and told those around her that she was ready to go home to be with her Lord. Her life was not in vain. She was a friend worth knowing. She will be deeply missed. God prepared a place in His heavenly home for Shirley and He has called her to be with Him forever. She is now in glory where there is no pain, no suffering, no sorrow, and no tears, only the joy of walking and talking with our Lord Jesus Christ. Shirley loved her family and friends very much and never failed to tell them how important they were to her. If she were here today she would tell you to never forget to tell your loved ones how much you love them and to live your life to the fullest! Oh what a great reunion to see Jesus and all my loved ones! To those of you who have not yet made a commitment to Jesus, please know He loves and cares for you. He is waiting with outstretched arms to welcome you home. Please don't wait until it is too late. I want to see you in Heaven. Just be there when I turn around in Heaven. I want to see your dear faces and spend all eternity with you. It gave me great joy to serve the Risen Savior, the True Living God!

Shirley will be deeply missed by her loving husband over 54 years: David C. Hewitt of Vevay, IN; her son: Steven Gary Hewitt and his wife: Jane of Camden Wyoming, DE; her daughter: Tracy Lee Nelson and her husband: Clayton of Louisville, KY; her grandchildren: Lori Hewitt, Travis Hewitt and his wife: Amanda, Cody Nelson and Brandi Nelson; her great-granddaughters: Sophia and Lillian Hewitt; her sister: Shelby Jean Minch-Garland and her husband: Benny of Lamb, IN; her brother: Charles Tingle and his wife: Barb of Milan, IN; her uncle: Orville Tingle of Crestwood, KY; her several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert Carroll Tingle, died December 22, 1991 and Leona (Raisor) Tingle, died May 10, 1976; her brothers: Earl Wayne, James Everett and Donald Lee Tingle; her sisters: Lois Anna Taylor, Leora Carol Marsh and Wilma J. Romans; her niece: Debbie Minch and her nephews: Robert and Mike Tingle.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Howard Wade at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison, Indiana.
